Write the World Monthly Competition
Age limit: None
Each month Write the World holds a new competition, developed around a particular idea or genre of writing, such as poetry, fantasy, sports journalism, or flash fiction. Competitions encourage you to dig deeper into the writing process, try out new genres and share your work with a sea of eager readers.
And because a first draft is never perfect, you have the chance to receive peer and expert feedback before submitting your final piece.
WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT WRITE THE WORLD COMPETITIONS?
" Free Entry and Cash Prizes: The winning entrant receives $100, and the runner-up and best peer-reviewer receive $50.
" Professional Recognition: All three winners will be featured on our blog, with commentary from our guest judge.
" Expert Review: Submit a draft in the first week and get feedback from our team of experts-authors, writing teachers, and education professionals.
" Guest Judges: From Poet Laureates to The President's speech writer-our monthly competitions are judged by renowned and respected writers from across the globe.
Example of a prompt:
Step onto the Write the World stage this month with your own one-act play. Composed of a single scene or a series of scenes, the one-act delivers a powerful punch. Like the short story, this genre requires the writer-you!-to make every word count, every gesture, intonation, and stage direction. This month, raise the curtain on an important event or experience that will change the characters involved, and let the drama unfold.
Deadlines for each month - submitting for expert review: the 11th (generally)
- final entry due: the 20th (generally)
Don't worry if you feel this isn't enough time - they always make the prompt for the next month available too so you can start it earlier.
Final Deadline:
Better to check on their website since it changes for every competition, but generally 11th of each month for expert review and the 20th of each month for the final entry
